Manufacturer certification
GAF Master Elite is the top tier and caps out at a small share of contractors nationally. GAF Certified, Owens Corning Preferred and CertainTeed credentials sit below it. This decides which warranties a company can actually register on your roof.
Licensed and insured in North Carolina
Any roof over $30,000 needs a general contractor license here. You can look any company up on the NC Licensing Board register in about a minute, and you should.
Insurance and storm claim work
Not every roofer will sit with your adjuster. In a hail belt that is the difference between a covered replacement and an argument you lose.
Scope and years trading
Whether they do gutters, siding and commercial as well as roofs, and how long they have been doing it, where the company publishes a founding year.
We ranked on rating first, then review count, because those are the two numbers you can verify without taking anyone's word for it. The certifications and scope then tell you which company fits the job you actually have in Charlotte, which is a different question from who has the most stars.

If you want the safest default pick in Charlotte on the evidence available, it is this one.
Worth knowing. They are GAF Certified rather than Master Elite, so the very longest GAF system warranties are not theirs to register.

Roofing, metal, gutters, siding and commercial, with financing and insurance claim help on the same site. A clean 5.0 across 254 reviews is a genuinely hard thing to hold. Useful when the storm took more than the roof and you would rather not project-manage three trades.
Worth knowing. We could not find a manufacturer certification on their site. That does not mean they lack one, but it does mean you should ask before you sign.

One of very few companies on this page carrying credentials with two different manufacturers, which in practice means you are not steered to one shingle line because it is the only one they can warrant. Insurance work, gutters and financing as well, plus a BBB presence.
4. Regal, best for metal and commercial roofs
5.0 stars from 140 Google reviews. No manufacturer certification listed on their site. regrs.com
Metal roofing and commercial work sit front and center rather than buried under a residential shingle pitch, and they take insurance and storm claims. A hundred and forty reviews at 5.0 is a solid record for a company this focused.
Worth knowing. No manufacturer certification listed on their site, and they do not publish a founding year, so you are relying on the reviews alone for track record.
Owens Corning Preferred status, insurance claim handling, gutters and financing. If you have already settled on Owens Corning shingles, a contractor credentialed with that manufacturer is who registers the better warranty.
Worth knowing. A hundred and five reviews is the smallest total here. It clears our bar, but there is less history behind the score than the companies above.
6. 21 Roofing Group, best for the strongest GAF warranty

GAF Master Elite is the top tier GAF operates and only a small share of contractors hold it. It unlocks the longest GAF system warranties, which is the single most valuable thing on this page if you are buying a roof to keep. Metal, gutters, siding and storm work as well.

Storm and hail work, metal roofing, commercial, gutters and siding, trading since 2012 with a BBB presence. A broad shop rather than a specialist, which is what you want when the damage is not confined to one part of the building.
Worth knowing. No manufacturer certification found on their site and no insurance claim service advertised, so ask about both if either matters to you.

It matters mainly for warranty length, because the longest GAF system warranties can only be registered by a Master Elite contractor. For a repair it is close to irrelevant. For a full replacement you intend to keep for 25 years it is worth asking about.
