Gate one: 4.7 stars or better
On Google, on 26 September 2026. Below 4.7 and the pattern of complaints usually stops being bad luck and starts being how the company runs.
Gate two: at least 100 reviews
A 5.0 from eleven people tells you almost nothing. A hundred reviews is roughly where the average stops swinging on one bad week.
Manufacturer certification
GAF Master Elite is the top tier and caps out at a small share of contractors nationally. GAF Certified, Owens Corning Preferred and CertainTeed credentials sit below it. This decides which warranties a company can actually register on your roof.
Licensed and insured in North Carolina
Any roof over $30,000 needs a general contractor license here. You can look any company up on the NC Licensing Board register in about a minute, and you should.
Insurance and storm claim work
Not every roofer will sit with your adjuster. In a hail belt that is the difference between a covered replacement and an argument you lose.
Scope and years trading
Whether they do gutters, siding and commercial as well as roofs, and how long they have been doing it, where the company publishes a founding year.
We ranked on rating first, then review count, because those are the two numbers you can verify without taking anyone's word for it. The certifications and scope then tell you which company fits the job you actually have in Raleigh, which is a different question from who has the most stars.

Worth knowing. Their site does not advertise insurance claim handling, so if you are filing a storm claim, confirm that first.
2. Roof Dawgs, best for storm work in south and east Raleigh

Roof Dawgs turn up in the Google map pack across more of Raleigh than anyone else, which usually reflects how much work they are doing and where. Storm and hail, commercial, metal and gutters.

3. Triangle's Trusted Roofing, best for a straightforward claim
5.0 stars from 220 Google reviews. No manufacturer certification listed on their site. mytrustedroofer.com
Insurance and storm claim work is the center of what they advertise, backed by a BBB presence and 220 reviews at a clean 5.0. A narrow focus, done well.
Worth knowing. Narrow scope. No gutters, siding or commercial advertised, so a multi-trade job means a second contractor.
4. Honour Roofing and Construction, best family-run pick
5.0 stars from 166 Google reviews. No manufacturer certification listed on their site. honourroofing.com
Family owned, insurance and storm work, gutters and siding, with a BBB listing. A hundred and sixty six reviews at 5.0 puts them in genuinely good company.
Worth knowing. No manufacturer certification listed, which limits the warranty tiers available on your roof.
5. The Shingle Master, best combination of scale and certification
Master Elite certification plus 554 reviews is the strongest pairing of those two things in Raleigh. Insurance work, metal, gutters, siding and solar, so very little falls outside what they will quote.
6. Big Bear Roofing, best for solar alongside a new roof
Master Elite, insurance and storm claims, commercial, metal and solar with financing. They also show up in Durham, so a job that straddles the two counties is not a problem for them.
7. Camden Roofing and Construction, best Owens Corning route in Raleigh
4.9 stars from 264 Google reviews. Trading since 2019. Owens Corning Preferred. camdenroofinggc.com
Owens Corning Preferred, family owned, insurance and storm work, gutters and financing. Two hundred and sixty four reviews in six years is a fast build.
Worth knowing. Trading since 2019, so the shortest history of anyone in the top half here. Not a mark against them, just less road behind the record.
8. Southern Premier Roofing, best reach across the Triangle and the Triad
Master Elite, insurance and storm claims, commercial, gutters and siding, and they appear in the map pack in Raleigh, Durham and beyond. The widest genuine footprint of any company on this page.
9. Lamar Homes Roofing, best for one contractor across the whole exterior
4.9 stars from 184 Google reviews. GAF Certified and CertainTeed. www.lamarhomes.net
This is us, and on the published method we place ninth. Eight Raleigh roofers above us have either more reviews, a higher rating, or both, and four of them hold a GAF certification tier above ours. What we do have that most of this list does not is scope: roof, gutters, decks, painting and haul-away handled by one company on one schedule, plus a free inspection with a written report you keep whether you hire us or not. We are Black owned, veteran owned and family owned, and Forbes Home named us a Top Rated roofing contractor in 2024.
Worth knowing. We are GAF Certified, not GAF Master Elite. Four of the eight roofers above us hold that higher tier, being On Tops, The Shingle Master, Big Bear and Southern Premier, as does Modern Roofing just below us. If the longest possible GAF system warranty is your deciding factor, one of them is your call rather than us.
Master Elite certification in a family-run operation, with insurance and storm work and financing. You get the top warranty tier without going to a large company.
Worth knowing. A hundred and forty two reviews is modest next to the leaders, and they do not advertise gutters or commercial.
11. Roofwerks, best for commercial roofs
4.8 stars from 606 Google reviews. No manufacturer certification listed on their site. www.roofwerks.com
Six hundred and six reviews is second only to On Tops in Raleigh, and commercial roofing leads what they advertise rather than trailing it. Gutters and financing too, with a BBB presence.
Worth knowing. 4.8 is the lowest rating on this list and we could not find a manufacturer certification or insurance claim service on their site.

No. We publish the criteria before the list and the criteria set the order, which puts us ninth of 11 here. The sort is rating first, then review count, and it is done in code rather than by hand so the order cannot drift in our favor.
What does GAF Master Elite mean and does it matter?
It is the top tier of GAF's contractor program and a minority of contractors hold it. It matters mainly for warranty length, because the longest GAF system warranties can only be registered by a Master Elite contractor. For a repair it is close to irrelevant. For a full replacement you intend to keep for 25 years it is worth asking about.
