Why it is priced by volume

Junk removal costs what it costs to move and then to dispose of, and both scale with volume. So the industry quotes by truck fraction: an eighth, a quarter, a half, three quarters, full. Published national figures put the average job around $250, with the full span running from about $75 for a single item to $800 for a packed truck.

What pushes a job above the range

Weight is the first thing. A half truck of pillows and a half truck of broken concrete cost the landfill very different amounts, so dense material like soil, masonry and tear-off roofing is priced separately almost everywhere.

Access is the second. Everything carried down from an attic, up from a crawl space or round from a back yard is labor that a driveway pile does not need. A hot tub or a piano usually gets its own line because it needs a second pair of hands and sometimes a dolly it does not fit on.

What we take

We run haul-away alongside the roofing and construction work, so most of what we clear is renovation debris, cleanouts, storm damage and old furniture. Paint, chemicals, tires, asbestos and anything else classed as hazardous has to go through a licensed route, which is not us. Our junk removal page covers how it works.

Questions

Common questions

How much does junk removal cost?

Published national figures put the average single job near $250, with a range from about $75 for one item to $800 for a full truck. Half a truck, which is the most common size, typically runs $200 to $400.

How is junk removal priced?

By how much of the truck you fill, because that is what drives both the haul and the landfill fee. Quotes come as truck fractions: an eighth, a quarter, a half, three quarters or a full load.

How big is a cubic yard of junk?

Roughly a three by three by three foot cube, or about the volume of a large appliance. A standard junk truck holds somewhere between 13 and 17 cubic yards when it is properly loaded.

Does heavy material cost more?

Yes. Soil, concrete, brick and roofing tear-off are charged by weight rather than volume in most cases, because disposal is billed by the ton rather than by the yard.

What will you not take?

Paint, solvents, fuel, chemicals, tires, asbestos and medical waste. These need a licensed disposal route, and a company that offers to take them on a normal haul is cutting a corner somewhere.

Do I have to carry it out to the driveway?

No, though it brings the price down if it is already there. Carrying from an attic, crawl space or back yard adds labor, so tell us where it is when you ask for a quote and the number will hold.
