What Gutter Cleaning Costs in Raleigh

The Raleigh average is $117, well under the national figure. Here is the per foot rate a quote is actually built from, how often this needs doing here, and what a cleaning tends to find.

The short version

What this costs and how often

Two numbers and one local fact.

Raleigh averages $117 a visit, with most homeowners paying $89 to $151, or $0.67 to $1.58 per linear foot. The local spread runs from about $50 to $250. That is meaningfully below the $168 national average from the same publisher.

Twice a year is the Raleigh baseline, against a national one to two, and the published reason is the tree cover and rainfall here. If you have pines over the roof it is four times, because needles drop all year and mat into a layer water runs straight across instead of soaking through.

The average Raleigh house is just under 1,800 square feet with 150 to 200 linear feet of gutter, so the per foot rate is the one to quote against. Figures are attributed under each table.

By length

What it costs by how much gutter you have

Measure the runs, not the house. This is how the quote gets built.

Gutter lengthRaleigh cost
200 ft$130 to $320
175 ft$120 to $280
150 ft$100 to $240
125 ft$84 to $200

Figures from Angi's Raleigh gutter cleaning page, last updated 5 August 2026. Gutters on different levels are charged by the length of each level, so a second story run does not put the whole job on the higher rate.

Seamless gutters cost less to clean than seamed, because there is nothing for debris to catch on at the joints. In Raleigh that is $84 to $125 seamless against $115 to $175 seamed, about 40% more for the jointed kind. Some contractors publish a 10% to 25% discount for seamless.

How often

Cleaning frequency by what is overhead

Ordered by how often the published guidance says to do it.

SituationCleanings per yearWhy
Pines overhanging the roof4Needles shed year round rather than in one autumn drop, and they knit into a mat that water runs straight over.
Oaks nearby2A heavy spring catkin drop and then leaves again in autumn.
Average Raleigh home2Twice a year is the local baseline, not the national one to two, because of the tree cover and the rainfall here.
Gutter guards fitted1Guards cut the debris but do not end the job. Fine grit and seed still need sweeping off the top.

Where the figures disagree

The national averages are 60% apart

This is worth knowing before you compare quotes against something you read elsewhere.

Angi puts the national average at $168. This Old House puts it at $275 for the same job. Both publish nearly identical per foot rates, so the gap is not about the rate, it is about how big a house each one assumed.

There is a second contradiction worth naming. Angi's Raleigh page says the city's roughly 10% above average cost of living drives local prices up. This Old House names North Carolina as a lower cost state with lower labor rates. Angi's own numbers settle it: $117 in Raleigh against $168 nationally. Raleigh is the cheaper market, whatever the explanation attached to it.

This is why we quote the per foot rate and the Raleigh figure rather than a national average. A national average for this work is not a number you can hold anyone to.

What adds to it

Surcharges, and what a cleaning finds

The first three are published percentages. The table is what gets found once someone is up there.

A steep roof adds about 15%, because every section has to be reached off a ladder instead of from above. Gutters left for years add 10% to 50%, since matted debris comes out by hand rather than being flushed. Peak autumn and spring add 10% to 50% again, which is the one you can avoid by booking off season.

What gets foundCost to put rightWhy it happens
Soffit and fascia repair$600 to $6,000The most expensive thing a cleaning finds, and the most common consequence of not cleaning. Water that cannot leave the gutter goes into the board holding it.
Gutter replacement$630 to $1,800Where sagging has pulled the hangers out of the fascia.
Downspout installation$320 to $1,100Usually because the existing run puts water back against the foundation.
Gutter repair$240 to $480Resealing joints and refastening hangers. This Old House puts the same work at $194 to $620.
Downspout clearing$50 to $100Charged separately by most pros, because a blocked downspout is a different job from a full gutter.

Figures from Angi, last updated 17 October 2026. Ordered by cost. This Old House prices gutter repair at $194 to $620 against Angi's $240 to $480.

The top line is the one to take seriously. Water that cannot leave a blocked gutter goes into the board the gutter is screwed to, and soffit and fascia repair starts at $600 and runs to $6,000. A $117 cleaning twice a year is cheap insurance against the top of that range.

Guards cut cleaning costs by up to half and stretch the interval, but guarded gutters still want doing annually. Fitting them runs $6 to $8 per linear foot, so a 200 foot house is $1,200 to $1,600 up front. Our guard comparison covers which type survives pine needles, which is the question that matters here.

Your own quote

Why the average is a starting point, not a price

Every figure on this page is someone else's average. Here is what moves yours away from it.

Five things decide what you are actually quoted, and only the first is about the size of your house. Linear feet of gutter sets the base, which is why the per foot rate is the number worth comparing. Height changes the access. Roof pitch decides whether the work happens from the roof or off ladders. How long it has been decides whether debris flushes out or comes out by hand. Guards cut the work but add a step.

That is why the published averages sit 60% apart and why we do not quote a flat rate on this. We look at the runs, tell you what it will cost, and tell you if it can wait until next season. The estimate is free and there is no obligation attached to it.

What we do differently is who goes up the ladder. A roofing crew cleans the gutters and looks at the roof edge while they are there, so you get photographs of the fascia, the hangers, the drip edge and the first course of shingles whether or not anything needs doing. Our gutter cleaning page lists exactly what is included.

Questions

Gutter cleaning cost FAQs

What homeowners ask before booking.

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Raleigh?

The Raleigh average is $117, with most homeowners paying $89 to $151, or $0.67 to $1.58 per linear foot. The full local spread runs from about $50 to $250. That is well below the $168 national average from the same publisher, so Raleigh is a cheaper market for this work than most.

How often should gutters be cleaned in Raleigh?

Twice a year for most homes here. Angi's Raleigh page puts that down to above-average tree coverage and rainfall, against a national baseline of once or twice. If you have pines over the roof, four times is the published figure, because needles shed all year and mat together rather than washing through.

Why do the published averages disagree so much?

They do, and badly. Angi says $168 nationally and This Old House says $275 for the same job, a gap of over 60%. The per-foot rates the two publish are nearly identical, so the difference is in the size of house each assumes. We quote the Raleigh figure and the per-foot rate rather than a national average, because per-foot is the number a quote is actually built from.

What makes a quote come in higher?

Three things carry published surcharges. A steep roof adds about 15%, because the work has to happen off ladders rather than from the roof. Gutters that have been left for years add 10% to 50%, since matted debris has to come out by hand instead of being flushed. Booking in peak autumn or spring adds 10% to 50% again.

Do gutter guards mean I never clean them again?

No, and anyone selling them on that basis is overselling. Guards cut cleaning costs by up to half and stretch the interval, but the published guidance still has guarded gutters cleaned at least annually. Installing them runs $6 to $8 per linear foot, so a 200 foot house is $1,200 to $1,600 up front.

Why do quotes vary so much for the same house?

Because five separate things move the number: the linear feet of gutter, the height, the roof pitch, how long it has been since the last clean, and whether guards are fitted. The published national averages are themselves 60% apart, $168 from Angi against $275 from This Old House, which tells you how little an average settles. Compare the per linear foot rate between quotes rather than the total, and make sure each one includes flushing the downspouts.

Do I need a permit to have gutters cleaned in Raleigh?

No. The City of Raleigh requires no permit for gutter cleaning, so there is no permit cost to budget for. Sales tax of 7.25% does apply to the service.
